    Hooray for Balmain Blu!

Balmain Blu is one of the best value-for-money-and-quality joints in Balmain. You can get your fish crumbed or battered or grilled, with chips, for $8.50 ($1 more for salad.) You are rewarded with 2 big pieces of fish atop a heaping helping of either chips or salad depending on your appetite. Sauces are separately priced but every time I've asked for some tartar or tomato sauce I am always given a few packets for free by the friendly men behind the counter.

I've had a few other items at Balmain Blu besides fish and chips; one was a tuna skewer that they cooked to death, hence the 4 stars. But really, for value and quality and to satisfy your fish and chip craving, Balmain Blu is highly recommended!

This local Balmain fish and chip shop offers a good range of seafood, and lots of well thought out package options. They have a good casual seating area, and it's not unusual to see people sitting eating their fish and chips with a glass of byo wine in hand.  We have had takeaway fish and chips from here a couple of times and enjoyed immensely. They also have a delicious selection of fresh seafood for those avoiding battered seafood.

Balmain Blu say their fish is great.  And it is.  Having been a staunch Fish on Fire fan since my days in Glebe, I was hesitant to go elsewhere for my seafood satisfaction.  One sunny day, however, all this changed.  Walking past the packed and pumping fish shop, I decided to throw caution to the wind.

Caught by the "Award Winning Fish & Chips" sign posted in the window, I walked in to check it all out.  Clean?  Check.  Busy?  Check.  Cheap?  Check.  Things were looking good, so I ordered a battered fish and chips.  "Anything to drink?" the smiley man behind the counter asked, and drew my attention to the fridge of wine and beers behind him.  Beer, fish & chips?  Yes please.  So I sat down with my icy beer (amazing on the first seriously hot day since last summer) and waited with baited breath.
The food came quickly despite how busy they were, and the plate was stacked high with two sizeable pieces of fish atop a mountain of chips.  So far so good.  And then, with the first crispy, fall-apart-in-your-mouth bite, I was (insert pun here) hooked.

Whilst I still love Fish on Fire, Balmain Blu has given me a closer and equally delicious alternative.  And, as I walked out the door, spotting the "BYO, no corkage" sign, I knew that I would be back.
